Tooth Loss Linked To Higher Risk Of Dementia

FACTS: With limited evidence found, 47 studies performed by the Geriatrics Health Professionals in early 2022 found a correlation between cognitive decline and poor dental hygiene, with tooth loss accounting for almost 25% of the increased risk of dementia.

QUOTES: The authors of the study – “From a clinical perspective, our findings emphasize the importance of monitoring and management of periodontal health in the context of dementia prevention, although the available evidence is not yet sufficient to point out clear ways for early identification of at-risk individuals, and the most efficient measures to prevent cognitive deterioration”.
