Facts
- Belgium’s Federal Public Service Finance confirmed on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, that it was hit by a cyberattack. The MyMinfin online tax portal and several other digital services were made temporarily inaccessible as a precaution.
- MyMinfin lets residents and businesses access tax documents, manage financial information and complete administrative procedures. Many other government applications remained available, fully or with reduced functionality.
- The attack came shortly before the October 31 deadline for certain Belgian income tax declarations. FPS Finance said “sufficient additional time” will be granted, but no new date had been announced.
- FPS Finance said there was currently no indication that personal information had been leaked or stolen. Its investigation into possible data exposure is continuing, so a breach has not been definitively ruled out.
- Authorities have not identified the attackers or the method used.
- Technical teams are working to protect government systems and restore services as quickly as possible. No restoration timetable has been announced.
